Calorie Restriction – Is It For You?

I think most of us have probably heard of the Calorie Restriction Diet as a means of anti aging. If you haven’t heard of it, I’ve already written an article about it here: Calorie Restriction and Aging. No sense in re-creating the wheel.

Frankly, their photos didn’t do much to convince me. Some of them really looked old and haggard – like they lost too much weight. The photo I have posted is from the New York Times article on Calorie Restriction. He is 36 and (at the time)has been on a low calorie diet for 6 years. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 135 pounds. Although he’s much younger than some of the other photos I’ve seen, I think my opinion of what is healthy looking will have to change.
I prefer the old bodybuilder type of diet – smaller, more nutritious meals spread out throughout the day. Not that I do that either.
Is calorie restriction for you? Be sure you do all the necessary research needed to make an informed decision.

I think you will find that to look at calories is both misleading and unhelpful as a calorie is not a calorie. You need to look deeper, at the root cause as it were. What is important is the source of the calorie, i.e. the type of food or to simplify it, the macro-nutrient group. Ageing, degenerative disease, longevity, health and well being are closely associated to the level of carbohydrate consumption. It’s not what many people, organisations, business and the governments want to hear, but these are the facts.
It is as simple as this, for those that listen and take this on board there is hope as many symptoms can be halted or even reversed completely. For those that don’t, the forecast is not so good.
