Book Review – No More Little Old Ladies!
by GiGi
We all read or hear information about anti aging, but it’s rare to get advice from someone who actually lives what they preach. No More Little Old Ladies! was written by Barbara Morris, a pharmacist who wrote about anti aging techniques when she was 79 – she clearly knows something about aging.
She gives us 15 essential anti aging strategies for women in their 40s and 50s – but really, they can apply to any age. (And to males, too!) The point she makes is that it’s important to start as young as possible because it’s so much harder to reverse signs of aging after you reach a certain point.
She talks about the “retirement culture” and how many people get sucked into it without even knowing it is happening. It occurs from the language you use – remember “senior moments”? – to the friends you keep – to the wistful longing of days gone by. I sometimes get those joke emails about “Remember when..” and I groan every time I see them. Who cares that a coffee maker used to be called a “percolator”? Or that a movie only cost 50 cents when you were young? Okay, I’m digressing now…
Obviously, diet and exercise are important and she does cover those, but attitude and refusing to “age gracefully” is the cornerstone of any anti aging program. She covers topics like having plastic surgery, being aware of your “old thinking” and preparing to live alone. No one talks about it much, but the odds of your spouse or significant other living as long as you aren’t there (yet). And what about dating younger men?
If you are a youthful and vibrant 40 or 50 year old, wouldn’t you like to still be that way when you are 75? It’s more than possible if you follow some of Barbara’s strategies.
I’d like to think that society is changing their viewpoint on aging and isn’t as negative as some of the experiences the older generation has had, but even at my “youthful” age, I am loathe to tell anyone my age. I can sense an attitude change when they realize my children are grown adults.
As more of us baby boomers enter the “retirement” age, the more I think the attitudes about aging will change, but I’m not taking any chances – no “aging gracefully” for me!
I highly recommend this book – especially if you have any friends that growing old too fast! There’s also a workbook to write down some goals and thoughts you can get when you buy the book.

The title of this book seems to speak to ladies in their 40′s & 50′s…How about those of us in our 60′s & 70′s? Anything in it for us??
Oh, yes, absolutely! I’ll have Barbara (the author) reply.
Hi Frances Louise!
There is plenty in No More Little Old Ladies for women of any age. Being “old” is not an age, it’s a choice!
This would be a great gift for my mom- just in time for mother’s day. Thanks!

This is a wonderful book. The moral of the book is “aging in inevitable; being old is a choice.” Yeah, if you think you are getting old will definitely make you old. if you are starting to feel like you are getting old, then this is must read book for you. It will show you how to lift your spirits and live life like a princess.
Timothy Anderson, thank you so much for your cogent review. I am absolutely blown away by how many men find value in No More Little Old Ladies! I am often asked why I don’t write a book for men, but considering the positive feedback I get for No More Little Old Ladies, I guess I don’t need to write a book just for the guys. They already “get it.” Avoiding decline is not about gender; it’s about what goes on in your head and the lifestyle you live.
I just found this web site because I am doing research for myself on anti-aging. At 64 I work out 5x’s a week, eat well, and supplement, work 40-60hrs/wk (by choice) and my 86 yr old mother who lives with me does all of the above except the heavy work schedule – she does help me out in one of my businesses pt. time! I’ve tried retiring several times, but always find more interesting things to get involved with. I plan to visit your site often and if I ever do slow down enough, I’d love to read this book!!
Welcome aboard, Tara! I’m sure many readers will be inspired by your routine!
Tara Wentworth, good for you! I’m glad you are working out 5 times a week. You obviously realize that youth is a short term loan, and if you want to keep what you have, you have to work at it.
I hope you will read my book, or just take a look at my video on my website, http://www.nomorelittleoldladies.com
You go girl!
