Alpha Lipoic Acid – the “New Kid” Antioxidant
This is first in my series of anti aging supplements. See my original article here: Do You Need Anti Aging Supplements?
Although Alpha lipoic acid has been known since the 1950s, it was originally thought to be a vitamin and wasn’t classified as an antioxidant until 1988. Read more
Scientists Prove That Mom Was Right

I
don't know about you but I was always told as a kid, "Eat your carrots, they're good for your eyes!" I'll bet Mom never knew how much the carotenoids in carrots could help in an anti aging program for your eyes.
Researchers have recently discovered that carotenoids and antioxidants can help with age-related macular degeneration. In a study of similar age patients, the group given antioxidants and carotenoid supplements had significant improvement in certain areas than the group that did not. It should be noted that the group did not have advanced AMD.
Carotenoids, if you remember, are abundant in carrots, sweet potatoes, greens (such as spinach and kale) and tomatoes. They provide a source of vitamin A and are also antioxidants. For best results, don't overcook your vegetables.
Pomegranates Point to Prostate Health
New studies have been done that indicate Pomegranates may play an important role in prostate health by increasing sperm health.
Male lab rats given pomegranate juice showed increased sperm quality, testosterone levels and antioxidant activity. The pomegranate juice also decreased abnormal sperm rate.
Pomegranates aren’t the only antioxidants shown to help with prostate health. Resveratrol has gotten a lot of press lately and has been touted as the one of the most exciting longevity discoveries in the last decade.
Resveratrol is the antioxidant from red wine and does quite a bit more than just help with sperm function. It’s been shown to reduce colon cancer risk, possibly breast cancer risk as well as prostate cancer risk in significant numbers in lab rats. I’ll be covering that more in depth in my upcoming series on anti aging supplements.
Now you could drink copious amounts of red wine (not recommended) and pomegranate juice to get these great health benefits, but I think an easier (and safer) option might just be this:

Cappuccino Extract – More Antioxidants For Your Face
by GiGi · 3 Comments
If you remember my previous post on Kiwi Fruit Extract, we can now add Cappuccino extract to the growing list of anti aging antioxidants. Granted, most of these are going to be designed for topical use in cosmetic products, but still it seems the researchers are coming up with a never ending amount of new products derived from plant products that we can put on our face.
It's fairly common knowledge by now that cocoa has high antioxidant properties. This Cappuccino extract also contains coffee, which according to some published research, could repair UV damage in skin when topically applied. Okay, so maybe the research was done on mouse skin, but hey, it could be promising.
The company that is coming out with this product is called Iris Trade – a New York based company that specializes in a range of food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and chemical products. Their latest interesting find is snail extract, which will be used in cosmetics. They claim it has the ability to 'allow skin to heal and regenerate'. Yummy! Snail masks!
I do hope they consider the smell when making this product. I'm not sure how appetizing a cappuccino smell is on your skin.
